Reformation

This series iconoclastically reimagines the allegory of Saint Sebastian through the experiences of two trans women. The muses are my friends, Jacqueline and Joslyn. The work is not a retelling of their specific story, nor a representation of every trans woman’s—or every trans person’s—experience, as each person’s journey is unique. Instead, it speaks to the courage of living authentically in the face of adversity and the importance of support from those who have walked similar paths.

Jacqueline embodies the beginning of her journey, pierced by arrows of doubt and societal expectation—symbols of inner and outer struggle. Joslyn, as the angel, represents what emerges from that struggle: resilience, strength, and the freedom to live one’s truth.

Here, pain becomes a cornerstone of growth. Reformation reminds us that perseverance on one’s path can inspire others—offering love, support, and encouragement along the way.

The final painting of  the series is still a work in progress. The subject matter brings together the imagery of Jacqueline in the St. Sebastian role and Joslyn as the comforting Angel.
